Trashed at the Rose Bowl Parade

rose bowl parada trash wake

A wake of trash lined Colorado Ave. hours after the last Rose Bowl Parade float rolled through Pasadena on New Years Day, 2011.

We had big aspirations to see the Rose Bowl Parade this year since the parade route is only a few miles away. However, those bleacher seats you see above will run you $50 a pop, and we weren’t ready to wake up at 6 a.m. to go huting for a parking spot and a free sidewalk seat.

We waited until after the parade to head to downtown Pasadena for a look at the floats and the aftermath.

We arrived before the cleanup crews, apparently. After wading through the sea of trash we finally made it to the post-parade grounds where all the floats were parked for viewing. Here are some highlights:

Go Cal Poly! Weekndr’s alma mater took home the viewers choice award. I bought a t-shirt.

Sweet little village with cedar shingles.

It’s amazing to see the floats up close. They can only be decorated with flowers, plants, bark, moss, and other organic vegetation. You’d be surprised how many colors and textures you can achieve under those restrictions.
